(Apart from my patented Kentucky Fried Bunny but even that's shallow fried). Partly it puts the fear of god in me, partly I think of the waste of oil (not sure of reasons on this) and partly I rarely eat anything that requires it. But - the one thing I long to cook in summer is indeed fritto misto - i have baby courgettes at the mo complete with flowers - perfect for it; perfect cubes of aubergine spring to mind in a chilli batter... the list goes on. I think a birthday request was in fact going to be one of those dinky little electric fryers, but if you're using only 3-4 inches of oil, then maybe this would work...
