Dear Readers,
Please excuse this filthy commercial intrusion into the otherwise perfectly pristine blog. I really would much rather be posting another picture of Tom Batman Force. (See comments section of post below.) But for anyone out there who is thinking of buying the book - and you know you really don't have to - it is only on special offer on Amazon for another two days, at the amazing price of £6.74. Considering cover price is £14.99 this is truly the deal of the week.
That is quite enough blatant advertising, and now I am going to go and sit in my room and think pure thoughts. Thank you for your exceptional patience.
IMPORTANT CAVEAT: please only buy from Amazon if, like me, you live in the middle of nowhere and do not have lovely local bookstore to hand. Otherwise, go at once to excellent independent bookshop with personal service and a soul, in the manner of that of the incomparable Lucy Fishwife.
Now I really am going to stop.
Done. Six quid too good to miss, but of course, once I was on Amazon Bad Things happened and the whole operation became considerably less thrifty. No regrets though.
ReplyDeleteJaywalker - You are so good and kind. Am always rather shy about promoting own book - seems horribly vulgar and unBritish. Very relieved you did not take it the wrong way.
ReplyDeleteSo know the Bad Things that can happen on Amazon. I go on feeling all stern and serious and quite in control, and within moments every atom of restraint has flown out of window. It's like crack for books. Or some such slightly better analogy.
I've been dying to read your book after India Knight's review! The discount is tempting but I might get it from another shop so you guys get a better royalty rate ;)
ReplyDeleteStop! Stop! Buy it from a local independent bookshop (shameless self-promotion order of the day)thus NOT ONLY ensuring the deserving authors get more money BUT ALSO supporting small businesses!
ReplyDeleteSorry, don't know what came over me. Am very much in love with my new Neutrogena Wave and the mild facial vibrations have caused me to hallucinate somewhat.
Oh my god, Lucy Fishwife - don't know what came over me. Have spent life singing praises of local independent bookshops. Formative years were passed in the Pan Bookshop in Fulham Road in the days when it was really tiny and everyone knew your name.
ReplyDeleteThink I got overwhelmed with obsessing about our Amazon rating. The solipsism, the solipsism. Horrible occupational hazard. Please forgive. Shall amend post at once.
And to Shauna - you are most faithful and lovely reader and please go at once to Lucy Fishwife's shop and buy book there. Thank you, thank you.
I absolutely LOVE amazon and I've probably spent thousands of pounds there. (ARGH). But I bought my copy of Backwards from Sussex Stationers for £9.99. Because I am very keen to support local shops at the moment and although the amazon packing can be recyled, it upsets me. Finally, I wanted the book and had to have it THEN. But I haven't read it yet so that was a mad reason. But hey, we're all Thatcher's me-me-me-I-must-have-it-NOW generation aren't we?!
ReplyDeleteNow I feel like a harridan (or indeed fishwife)! Thank you, thank you. We are stocking the book and have already sold several (must remember to check figures)! I also secretly love amazon though; particularly good for things that are surprisingly out of print ("House of Dr Dee" by Peter Ackroyd frinstance). And I don't in any way blame anybody for wanting something NOW!
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, don't live near independent booksellers either (sorry Lucy Fishwife!) so had no choice but to purchase from Amazon. But suffer from bibliophilic crack like other poor mortals, and finished up, well considerably poorer, having bought your book (reduced!) plus oodles more mentioned in previous comments/posts. Particularly liked Backwards and Nora Johnson's The De Clerambault Code.(Already have a copy of P Ackroyd's House of Dr Dee lurking somewhere).
ReplyDeleteJust purchased my copy and its on its way to sunny California. I would be supporting Lucy Fishwife's shop is it were just a little closer to me.
ReplyDeleteCharlie Circus - so thrilled at thought of book winging its way across the Atlantic. Now we are truly international authors. Hope hot cross buns also in care package. x
ReplyDeleteWell it was Amazon or Waterstones for me (sorry L), so birthdays sorted for 4 friends and a little present for me - even better I accidently hit the button that logs it against Silent One's C/C instead of mine - oh dear......
ReplyDeleteTitian - amazingly touched you are buying it as a present. Ultimate compliment. So, so hope you enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMine has been ordered via Amazon UK and is wending its way to sunny California. So excited!
